ACNE

ACNE is a common physiological condition seen I adolescent age group which has tendency to progress to chronic inflammatory disease if left untreated, resulting in blemishes, cysts and scars.

PIGMENTORY DISORDERS

VITILIGO AND LEUKODERMA:

Both these conditions manifest as white patches. These should be differentiated from leprosy lesions by intact skin texture and normal sensations.

VITILIGO:

             Vitiligo is an acquired primary disorder resulting from degeneration of melanin producing cells (melanocytes) in due course of life.

LEUKODERMA:

Albinism is an inherited disorder characterized by congenital disorders characterized by congenital defect of melanin synthesis

There are other types of Leukoderma they are:

  1. Contact Leukoderma: By direct contact with certain chemicals like Rubber goods, plastic, Adhesive Etc.
  2. Pressure Induced Leukoderma: With tight clothing (e.g.: waist line by tight saree knot)
  3. Occupational leukoderma:
    1. Chemical -> Phenolic and catecholic derivatives
    2. Physical -> Thermal burns, Ionising radiation, Blunt and Repeated trauma to skin.

LEPROSY 

Leprosy is also known as Hansen’s disease / kushta which is notifiable and communicable disease.

Mode of Transmission  

      • By respiratory route through aerosols

  • White Patches
  • Copper Covered Patches

PSORIASIS

PSORIASIS Is a skin disorder characterized by excessive proliferation and abnormal differentiation of epidermal keratinocytes associated with immunological and vascular changes in the skin

MANIFESTATION:

Thick scaly plaques (can affect any part of the skin including scalp) most commonly over the joints.

  • Nails can also be affected
  • Psoriasis can be a risk factor for myocardial Infarction and it has a significant negative impact on patient’s quality of life.
  • It is of two types:
      1. Hereditary form (Type -1): Type -1 is more severe form associated with arthropathy requiring more aggressive treatment.
      2. Sporadic form (Type -2)
